The origins of Galien
Galien: A Gallant Knight with a Heroic Heart I recently had the opportunity to chat with the backer who created Galien. (known as Zachary Virden in the game's credits) While Virden didn't have any of the original concept art for the character, they did share details about Galien's original design and conception. Galien in his final resting place, surrounded by mushrooms in Deepnest. Galien was a gallant knight who sought the approval of his lord, and fought hard to protect his land and prove himself honorable. His name was, in part, inspired by Gourry Gabriev, a swordsman from the 90s anime series Slayers. Galien also took inspiration from Guts, the protagonist of the manga series, Berserk.
